  • Studying the structural changes in climate activism brought about most notably by Greta Thunberg
  • Showing how and to what extent the new forms of leadership emerging in the digital public space impact the climate debate

Challenges

  • Identifying emerging climate leaders in eight European countries (Germany, France, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Poland and Czech Republic)
  • Characterising and analysing their public trajectories

Solutions

  • Multiplatform data collection (Twitter, TikTok, Instagram)
  • Creation of an algorithm combining metrics from network analysis, topic mining, audience mining as well as qualitative analysis and compared political study, in an attempt to describe the contours and efficacy of online leadership

Results

  • Creation of a dataset listing 50+ emerging leaders
  • Description the defining features of new climate leadership forms
